Jim started working at what is now called Goyer Ace in 1976. He worked there part time through high school and college. In 1979 Jim graduated from MATC with a degree in architectural technology and worked as a draftsman and residential designer until 1989. During that time he also worked part time at a hardware store in Madison.
In 1989 Jim started working full time at Goyer Ace. In 2002 Jim and his wife Donna purchased the business from Jim’s parents. He also opened and managed Goyer Ace in Cambridge from 1998 until 2005 when he sold the store so he could focus more on the Fort Atkinson location.
Jim and Donna have lived in Cambridge since 1990. They have one daughter Megan. He has a Harley Road King and enjoys golf, running and travel.
Jim is past president of The Optimist Club of Fort Atkinson and The Fort Atkinson Area Chamber of Commerce. He has been a member of The Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department since 2000 and serves on its board of directors. Jim also serves on The Town of Oakland Planning Committee.
Donna started working part-time at what is now Goyer Ace in 1996 doing payroll and filing federal and state required payroll reports. At that time she also worked for Luke Walsh, CPA doing bookkeeping for various local Fort Atkinson companies.
In 1996 the family-owned business was run by her husband Jim and his parents who opened the store as a Coast to Coast in 1976. When a second store was opened in Cambridge in 1998 Donna started working full-time taking care of the office and financial aspects of that location along with doing additional work at the Fort Atkinson store.
In 2002 Jim and Donna purchased the business from Jim’s parents. In 2005 the Cambridge store was sold and Donna is now devoting all her time to Goyer Ace in Fort Atkinson.
